A bathroom design built around a statement freestanding bath

When our client approached us to help them design a new bathroom in their Virginia Water home, their vision was clear from the outset that they wanted a freestanding bath to be the hero of the space.

They were instantly drawn to the sculptural curves of our Villeroy & Boch Aveo freestanding bath. Once this statement piece was selected, the rest of the design evolved organically around it, allowing its elegant form to set the tone for the rest of the room.

The Aveo’s soft oval shape invites you to stretch out and unwind. With its seamless monolith design, it creates an eye-catching and contemporary look, while offering the perfect setting for an indulging soak. Finishing the bath set-up is our Hansgrohe Vivenis Single Lever Floorstanding Bath Mixer in Chrome.

Supporting elements were carefully chosen to echo the bath’s curved silhouette. Our Merlyn Level25 Quadrant Shower Tray at 900mm x 900mm fits neatly within the layout, ensuring a dedicated showering area, while its curved tray subtly mirrors the lines of the bath, maintaining visual harmony in the room.

The shower is completed with Merlyn’s Arysto Sleek single door panel, which is designed to nestle perfectly into any right-angle bathroom corner. Our Hansgrohe Croma Overhead Shower and Pulsify hand shower also feature.

Staying within the Villeroy & Boch collections, the Antao basin, vanity unit and WC were selected for their smooth, flowing forms. The vanity unit, finished in Warm Walnut for a beautiful wood-effect look, introduces a layer of warmth and texture, bringing a natural, spa-inspired feel into the room. The unit features a wood grain effect along the front, complemented by soft curved edges to the unit and basin.

A sense of calm is further enhanced through the use of our Porcelanosa Coral Caliza stone-effect tiles, which capture all the charm and opulence of natural stone. Installed in 45cm x 120cm size on the walls, with floors featuring the same tile in 80cm x 80cm size, choosing large-format tiles helps create expansive, uncluttered surfaces, allowing the subtle stone-effect texture to add a soft warmth into the room.

Further elevating the bath as the focal point, double stacked recessed niches were introduced behind the tub. Finished internally with our alluring Porcelanosa Gravity Aluminium Hexagon Rose Gold mosaic tiles, which create striking and captivating surface design. Integrated illumination within each recess adds depth and atmosphere, creating an inviting glow and setting the scene for low-lit, relaxed bathing.

Finishing touches include our JIS Sussex Goodwood Central Heating Towel Rail in Polished Chrome, and our HiB Quinn Ambient Bevel Mirror, which features colour temperature changing LED illumination, a bevelled edge design, ambient lighting and a large heated pad for reduced condensation.

Our HiB Vanquish Cabinet mirror has also been cleverly recessed into the wall above the WC, providing extra storage and illumination.

The finished space brings together all the essential elements of a functional bathroom, thoughtfully designed at every stage to deliver a calm, elegant environment that encourages relaxation and supports a sense of everyday well-being.
