We help tile the living spaces, kitchen, cloakroom and bathroom

Surrey Tiles & Bathrooms collaborated with interior design firm Marsh & Wiesenfeld to provide a mix of tile finishes for this stunning six bedroom detached new build house in Weybridge.
Juliet Marsh and Judy Wiesenfeld, joint partners of Marsh & Wiesenfeld, were instructed to create the interior design for the entire scheme during the initial build stage. They explained, “It was a really collaborative approach with the client, architects and builders from early on which is always a great way to work.
“At the heart of the design brief was the desire to create contemporary, bright and spacious living with pockets of cosiness and texture. The back of the house would be home to a very large open plan living space where the family dining, lounge and kitchen areas would be. An expansive area and the focal point of the home, we decided to focus on this space first to inform the rest of the interior design.”
The designers decided that getting the flooring right first would be the foundation to building up the rest of the design in this area. “It was such a large room and we wanted to maintain this feel by keeping to one uniform floor finish throughout it, rather than try and zone the different use areas. We both agreed that tiles would be a great choice, both for a modern finish and one that would work with underfloor heating, and our client was happy with this suggestion. We just had to find the perfect fit”.
Juliet and Judy contacted Phil at Surrey Tiles & Bathrooms who they had worked with before and made a trip to the showroom where the latest wood effect tile collections were on display. “We were immediately drawn to the wood effect tiles as they create such a warm and natural finish but have all the practical benefits of tiles. The Par-ker Manhatten collection offered a lovely range of colour choices but we were quick to rule out some of the darker wood effects as we felt these might be too dark for such a large space.”
The pair selected the Colonial finish to show the client. The light oak wood effect tiles deliver a contemporary feel and each pack comes with a variation of tile widths giving the installed tiles a finished look very akin to a real wood floor.

“The client loved them and with the main floor finish chosen early on in the project we were then able to use this foundation to build up the rest of the design and colour scheme. We didn’t go anywhere without the tile sample in hand so we could ensure all of the other finishes we chose would blend naturally with them.”
The Manhatten Colonial tiles feature throughout most of the ground floor spaces running from the large bright entrance hallway and into the open plan living space. A playful tile rug has been created in the hallway with the addition of Porcelanosa Deco Bluestone feature tiles, which deliver a weathered vintage style and have been installed to transition seamlessly with the wood effect tiles.
“This was one of Phil’s suggestions and we were immediately sold on the idea, the effect is gorgeous and makes a great entrance statement.”

The kitchen features a blend of taupe, grey and white cabinetry which all blend harmoniously with the light oak wood tiles, and darker feature accents within the large living space add just the right amount of texture and contrast to elevate the interior design. The living space looks out to a beautiful garden through large bi-fold doors and the natural greens are a harmonious scene with the natural oak flooring tones.

Juliet and Judy also enlisted Phil’s help in recommendations for the downstairs cloakroom and upstairs bathrooms. “We wanted a different floor finish from the wood tiles as you entered the cloakroom, however to ensure our design theme was consistent we opted for tiles that shared similar colour tones with the Deco Bluestone feature tiles in the hallway.” Newport Dark Grey tiles feature on the floor and main wall in the cloakroom, paired with the lighter contrasting tones of Boulevard White tiles on the side walls, and an alcove is finished in Gravity Aluminium Hexagon Metal to introduce mosaic feature detailing.
The finishing touch in the cloakroom is a bespoke KRION™ K Life Shelf which Surrey Tiles & Bathrooms instructed expert fabricators Stevens Washrooms to manufacture for the perfect bespoke fit. KRION™ is a solid surface solution which consists of two-thirds natural minerals combined with a low percentage of high resistance resins which provide its unique characteristics: an absence of pores, anti-bacterial, hard wearing, resistant, durable, easy to repair, low maintenance and easy to clean. Perfect in bathroom design.

“For the master bathroom we took our client along to Surrey Tiles & Bathrooms Woking showroom. The beauty of visiting a showroom like Surrey Tiles & Bathrooms is you can walk around all of the room-sets they have on display demonstrating how well different configurations of their tiles and bathroom products come together.
The client literally saw one of the first displays when you enter the showroom and decided that the tiles that featured were the ones she wanted for the master bathroom.”
The finished bathroom features Mirage Silver floor and wall tiles and the same Gravity Aluminium Hexagon Metal mosaic tiles in the alcove, creating a design link to the downstairs cloakroom.

The final room to feature products from Surrey Tiles & Bathrooms was the basement bar. Airslate Metal tile sheets have been used on the bar walls and base of the main bar unit. “When Phil showed us these tiles we did immediately think they were super cool, perfect for the bar space to inject texture, interest and a bit of fun. The colour variations and shimmer in the tiles work so well.”

The whole project took 18 months and now complete Juliet and Judy have a very happy client. “We’re really proud of the finished house and our client is delighted with the results, as are we. We really can’t praise Phil and the team at Surrey Tiles & Bathrooms enough for their involvement. Phil was incredibly helpful throughout the process, understanding our brief and making some fabulous recommendations. Being able to take the client along to the showroom was also such a great help in getting her involved in the journey and confident in the choices we were making when it came to tile finishes throughout the home.”
All products featured were installed by the project building team Patton Projects led by the designs of Marsh & Wiesenfeld.
